Yes, despite all my trolling, I'm a South Sudani.

It's really nice to know that South Sudanese and Somalis get along in another part of the diaspora; my brother and I have Somali mates down here in Australia -- and that shared experience definitely helps.

Darfur is home to 'African' and Arab tribes, even though Darfur means land of the Fur and was originally populated by the Fur, Masalit, Zaghawa and the Fertit.

The Baggara Arab tribes arrived only a few centuries ago and they're the only ones that identify as Arabs; the war in Darfur was caused by desertification and the transparently partial reaction of the Omar El-Bashir regime to that challenge...

The encroaching desert pushed the Baggara Arabs onto Fur, Masalit and Zaghawa lands and this understandably provoked a violent reaction; Omar El-Bashir predictably responded by supporting the Arab tribes....

..And it didn't seem to matter to Bashir and the regime that the 'African' Darfurians were the most loyal and committed troops against the South during the North-South war.

We (Southerners) told the Nuba, the people of Blue Nile, the Beja and the Darfurians that kowtowing to the Afro-Arabs in Khartoum-Omdurman was something they shouldn't tolerate and that's why they all have seats at the table in Khartoum.

Feel for the people but maintain your judgement against the 'leaders'; the Darfurians are distant cousins of South Sudanese, so I hope to reconcile and work with them in the future.
