If this Twitter thread is accurate, this means that Muslims, specifically the Somali & Afar ethnic groups have the highest birth rates in Ethiopia. Menelik (May Allah curse him) is probably rolling in his grave knowing that the same people he tried to subjugate & conquered have a huge advantage to dominate his people as their numbers drastically increase.

Another factor is religion, Ethiopia's future in it's current form is as an Oromo, Muslim majority nation. I genuinely don't see how a Tigray or an Orthodox Amhara from Bahir Dar can stomach being a shrinking Ethnic group being ruled by an Muslim Oromo like Jawar for decades if not centuries to come.

Even the Gurage who typically cared the least about ethnicity suddenly are being gung-ho about having their own region, there is a frantic race happening in Ethiopia right now for legal recognition and border consolidation before the upcoming civil strife, state collapse and eventual balkanization.

Oromos have begun reclaiming their identity ever since ethnic federalism. It’s the end of amxaaro domination, a fine legacy Zenawi left behind which will eventually cause a serious correction in Ethiopia. Had it not been for that I feel most Oromo would’ve forgotten their identity and bought into the amxaaro Ethiopian one.

I can see a nationalist Oromo once their dominance of Ethiopian politics is complete declaring Addis as Oromia and the new language as Oromo.

No point having lots of children and celebrating these figures but also having a significant number of newborns die within the first few years because of inadequate maternity and infant healthcare

This is good but Christian habesha strategically settle in urban areas of muslim regions and dominate Federal jobs for example in the Somali region the telecomunications sector is dominated by Amhara christians. but positive change has been happening just recently a Somali owned bank has just opened.

Their infant mortality is about half of Somalia’s. Assuming ogaden is the same(unlikely) then it lowers it by 0.3.

Ethiopia was already 35 percent Muslim in 2007 I can only imagine the percentage now probably 45-50 percent in 20 -30years the percentage will Shift even more

Ethiopia telecoms is nationalized and only recently began allowing certain companies to begin to prepare taking over.

Its very common when theres a protest or unrest they shut down the internet.

Menelik never conquered Somali Region. He died in 1913. British handed over the region in 1958 after a long struggle with Ogadens.

Menelik did try but the Sayid defeated him and British forces four Times and Menelik would always complain to the British. But Menelik could never defeat the Sayid forces.

He did take Afaar region in 1890s but never saw the dream of taking of DDS

in fact between 2018-2020 Ethiopian parliament blocked 3 census. They said “it will cause violence and wake up many ethnic groups who will find out their true numbers and Muslims will see themselves as majority “
