Exciting news from Somaliland! Dr Ross Elliott, a renowned veterinary surgeon and orthopaedic specialist from Onderstepoort, South Africa, successfully performed surgery on Janet, one of our resident cheetahs. Dr Elliott is also a Senior Lecturer in Small Animal Surgery at the University of Pretoria. With the expertise of Dr. Elliott, we performed surgical ankylosis of the heel joint. The purpose is to lock/fuse the joint to reduce/eliminate her pain and provide functional/structural support so she can use that leg. Our dedicated team assisted in the surgery to place a plate in Janet's rear leg. Drs Anahi, Ann, and Ahmed provided assistance with Cheetah Keeper Jelle and Vet Tech Morgane monitoring anaesthesia.
