Back in 1960 two former colonies gained independence all having one ideology not communism nor socialism that we will discuss later but pan somalism which united tribes to one category Somali . After they unified Ethiopia urged the U.K to give them back Ogaden (controlled after defeated the Italian East Africa Campaign). The British refused but then the U.S intervened and told them to give it to them, making this harder for pan somalism to come true. Djibouti had an Afar population which made it harder for Mohamed Harbi (pan somalist politician of Djibouti) to gain any power as his rival Hassan Aptidon (who originally comes from Somaliland) paving the way of Afars and Somalis to live in harmony. Kenya has the North Eastern Province making the pan somalism ideology just a mere dream.
Ok after that the position of the capital in Mogadishu making the people of the north a bit sketchy if they had any rights.The representative of Somaliland would be prime minister and Somalia would be president. After the assassination of the president. Barre rose to power and from then on Qabilism started to sprout as the country became communist.All the power went to the South. Somaliland felt backstabbed they had no rights as they once had they wanted freedom. Barre knew what was going to happen so he sent the ONL to massacre one specific tribe. Somaliland once again became a country*
