Looks like neighbouring countries rates are between 16-18 percent compared to 5 percent for Somalia
that's because we're literally a failed state, your taking 5% from people who are one penny away from starvation, and whose tax money is taken by fat men in suits who contribute minute if any of the money they collect in tax.
And all that money is going to pay interest. all that tax money is being mismanaged and looted, 5% is good.
Makes sense and is reasonable considering the state of the economy.
The real issue is the low trust. You don't see people in Puntland protesting about taxes, because they see all the roadworks and other projects that are implemented. I would not want to give Culusow one red cent either.
You can actually just not pay the vat. Sometimes I pay half of it though since Iβm already getting qurba joog taxed.

No I go back every year for 2 months though. Usually chill in Garoowe.
Brilliant initiative by the government. Low taxes will attract more outside investment, especially once the country has been secured. Not to mention it wouldnβt greatly affect the everyday lives of its citizens.
Somalis back home will adjust to having government control / oversight in due course. 34 years of not adhering to a national government, will attract grievances, but the nation will more on.
