Global Statistical Performance Indicators (SPI) Report is out, showcasing monumental progress for Somalia!
πŸš€
From 19.6 in 2019 to a remarkable 48.4 in 2022, our SPI has soared by 146.94%, propelling us to the 39th spot in continental rankings - a leap from being 2nd to last in 2019!
πŸ“ˆ
This incredible journey began with the amendment of the Somali Statistical Act in 2020, marking the establishment of the Somalia National Bureau of Statistics (
@NBS_Somalia
). This pivotal moment set the stage for a comprehensive turnaround in Somalia's statistical landscape, with an ambitious goal to reach the fifth quintile (80-100) by 2025.
🎯
The SPI growth reflects our steadfast commitment and the diligent efforts of the
@NBS_Somalia
team. It's a testament to the power of collective endeavour, underscoring the vital support and collaboration from our government's National Statistical System (NSS), Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), international donors, and partners. Together, we've embarked on a transformative journey, reinvigorating Somalia's statistical capabilities with the aim of providing accurate, timely, and reliable data for policy-making and development planning.
🀝
As we celebrate this milestone, our sights are set on the future. We eagerly anticipate the 2023 report, confident that our trajectory will lead us to exceed an SPI of 80 by 2025.
🌱
A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved - your commitment, expertise, and partnership are shaping a brighter future for Somalia. Here's to continuing our journey towards excellence in statistical performance. Onwards and upwards!

beesha winning even with our current situation "confident that our trajectory will lead us to exceed an SPI of 80 by 2025." If I understood this right that means we will be joining Egypt and South Africa as the highest in the continent.

Statistical Performance Indicators (SPI)

Reliable, usable, high-quality statistics are vital for global prosperity and progress. The Statistical Performance Indicators (SPI) provide an open-source framework for assessing the performance of statistical systems and the efforts to improve them.

I can tell that Somalia's statistical capacity is improving as I read much of what they publish. The quality is not yet at Kenyan levels yet, but not that much behind either.

Give Somalia 10 years of uninterrupted peace, and you’ll see πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡΄ in the top 10 of every list; literacy rate, life-expectancy, HDI, FDI, electrification rate, access to internet, economy, military, healthcare, etc.

What we need is a significant portion of our 1st and 2nd generation of Somalis who are educated in the West to go back home, and a new generation to study geology and engineering.

We have a bright future, we need to reduce corruption and enforce the rule of law, we're more than capable of doing it outside of our home country, so why not set the same principles for ourselves?

Good for Somalia. I am optimistic within 30 to 40 years time Somalia will be respected and be a power house. That's if they continue to their good works and ban qabil.

In order to continue on this trajectory we must avoid distractions like the SL port nonsense.

2024 - 2028 - Somalia

Electrification rate 75% - πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡΄ would enter the Top 20 percentile of Africa.

SPI performance (80-100) - πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡΄ would enter the Top 10 percentile of Africa.

Urbanisation rate - πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡΄ is already in the top 20 percentile today and could break the top 10 with a massive boom in residential and affordable housing projects across the country that naturally comes with peace.

Deepwater ports - πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡΄ has the most deep waters ports on the African continent.

Road network - πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡΄ is already in the top 20 in terms of a paved road network and could be much higher with new flagship projects.

Digital economy - πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡΄ is already an African leader when it comes to access to internet, affordability, adopting new technologies, mobile money market, etc

GDP - πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡΄ currently stands at $34 billion ppp according to the IMF 2024 report and is projected to be $43 billion in 2028, which would place the country in Africa’s top 25 give or take, though I’m optimistic if stability was maintained and the informal economy was steadily incorporated the figure could be much higher and πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡΄ could crack the top 20.

GDP Growth rate - 3.7% annually today, expected to be 4.3% in 2028, which would make πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡΄ one of the consistently growing states in Africa.

Population - based on the current growth rate πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡΄ would be in the top 25 African countries with the largest populations in 2028.

If this and other milestones are being achieved in just the next four years, can you imagine where the country will be in the next 10 to 15 years with peace? President Sisi was right!
