I hate to be pessimistic, but I doubt that this has anything to do with the environment or improving the lives of people. If it was, China, India and the US would be leading this programme, they’re the biggest polluters in the world – ESPECIALLY China. Somalia barely contributes to the total global emission, yet they want us to lead whatever this is without even knowing what the limitations are

its easier to incorporate renewables into your grid when you dont have much energy infrastructure to begin with. energy is energy, bonus when you can just generate energy with the sun and wind instead of using shitty diesel generators.

Somalia has high potential for wind based and solar energy. Personally I'd like to see us develop that sector because while we have tons of oil, unfortunately we came late to the oil boom and I worry that by the time we set up extraction others would've moved on. Furthermore I'd like to see us discuss the potential of nuclear power, we have uranium but this is a far off idea. I'd say the plan should be:

money from oil extraction used to develop wind and solar energy, that will then eventually explore the option of nuclear power once power can be provided to everyone.

If the FGS play it right Somalia could attract a couple of major flagship renewable energy projects for pennies on the dollars, simply by being a poster boy of clean energy in Africa.

I don’t think it’s stopping us from using energy but giving us infrastructure for clean energy but if it was China it would been built up in 2 years as they are the leading solar panel energy
