In this book, which was written in 1435, he mentions Somalia and the midgaan separately from each other
Perhaps they really had a kingdom and they were the size of the Somalis, then it fell into the hands of the Somalis, so then they were despised ?!!!

They are two totally different people's.
Midgaan are hunters
Tumaal are blacksmiths
They even hate each other

But he described them as a nation, as he mentions the peoples of East Africa from Zeila to Zanzibar

he as well mentioned Zeila as a nation. We need to critics of each foreign traveler, their input could be misunderstood by them, or the locals spoke in phrases that they separated themselves from other clan that seems to outsiders as they are different ppl. Look at FKD section for example, an outsider will think that Maay ppl are different from ethnic Somalis, and HAG are their own nation some thing for Majeerteen and OGs. since some members like to talk about their clans as separate or that their clans should brake away.

Yes maybe If you are someone who doesn't know the area well But someone like Ibn Majid who described the mountains and even the wells and all the villages of the Somali coast cities And he used to frequent it every year He went south and across the Juba River He described them as Somalis And also when talking about them Mention a coastal city to them where it is now.

Zeila in the past was mixed You can find many of the Saho and Beni Amer tribes in Eritrea bearing the name Al-Zaila'i and also afar And even in the sixteenth century, two thousand Mahri were expelled from Zeila. This shows you how mixed the city is

I explained how the locals and language barriers could give wrong information to stranger. Mountains and routes are easier to understand than social structure.

Could you provide a full translation? Somalis were first mentioned in an Ethiopian victory poem when the habashis defeated a group of somalis in battle near Zeila. The poem was composed in the early to mid 1400s. If this predates the Ethiopian poem this could be a very interesting discovery

Zeila became synonym with horn African that's why some may have zeila'i as a surname

Midgaan genetically are like other somalis but they may have some tiny foreign origin may suugo science guess is that they have ethio-semitic roots and were discriminated because if that. Western scholars mentioned a secret language spoken by them known as Af harlaad and tried to connect it to the harla people who were either a cushitic od semitic speaking population that was absorbed by northern somalis in the 1500s so it's around the time this book was written

Madhibaan people are Somalis + absorbed Semites.

Either they were ostracised due to some historic grievance, or like other societies, or most probably, there was a social hierarchy and people who worked with metal/leather etc, were at the bottom of that hierarchy. These social-classes and hierarchies exist in all societies.

If Madhibaans were at the top of the Somali hierarchy, we would have been a developed nation by now, that's for certain.
