That's the thing I can't understand what's their short term goal for Somalia I know long term is to fully control the red sea passage and block Chinese influence from the Horn but what do we get in return for the time being it seems like they want a weak dismembered Somalia I think they don't trust us to stay loyal
2 main goals:
1. The region has strategic importance when it comes to controlling or blocking access to their assets in the region. So many potential war theaters easily accessible from Somalia.
2. We're a threat. They're already have those uppity mid level powers of Iranians, Turks and soon Gulf Arabs. Don't even mention Argentinia and Venezuela. Last thing they want is another annoying power appearing that could take a slice from their cake. The cake in our case is Africa which is considered Europe's backyard just like Latin america is to the US.
You're right...they don't trust us after all those stunts we've pulled but if we get our shit together and force them to the table that doesn't matter.
The only other option than trusting us is having us as a potential pain in their ass they have to waste time on.
We might not be able to do much to scupper their plans in Africa or ME but we could join the propaganda war against them on the world stage or even host their rivals.
If we regain our sovereignty the worst thing they could do to us is sanction our economy but what's the use of that when it's already at the bottom.
So taking into consideration a cost/benefits view it would make sense to make a deal with us.
Not exactly at an equal partnership level but not as a lackey.
Only way that's realistically possible is if we're bulletproof in regards to unity.
Central government would be cool but a monarch would be even better.
Nationalism is a crazy drug.
