When I wuz scrolling through this thread (pretty much most of it wuz back n forth bickering btwn a xalimo n sum faraxs n if ur wondering this aint a gender war going on) I saw a bunch of dudes makin valid arguments that durags aint thug clothing n this reminds me of a thread that I made about durags 2 months ago so here is my take on it

-I deadass gon say this 4 the last time: DURAGS AINT THUG CLOTHING! It is used 2 take care of ur hair/get waves n durags wuz literally Invented in the 1930s damn near a century ago so how can a hair cloth frm nearly 100 yrs ago can turn u 2 a thug cuz it rlly aint addin up

-On top of all the problems that we facin as a diaspora in the west rn, there r also a shyt ton of problems 2 deal with back home

Your right, durags alone obviously doesn't make someone a criminal or evil. But I think people associate them with gangs because gangsters will often wear them. Unfortunately, a lot of crime done in the USA is done by black people due to increased levels of poverty compared to other races, so aspects of black culture may (falsely) be seen as criminal.

But these teens obviously aren't good people: "The boys were wearing pants showing their underwear, durags or even a SKI mask". This isn't normal teenage behavior lol, this shows that these men have deviated from societal norms and starting to act as gangsters. Tbh it's probably better as Somalis if we distance kids from acting stereotypically black by wearing durags, sagging, etc as a mean of precaution. It's really easy for kids to get into bad social groups and be mislead especially in bad neighborhoods/schools.

im pretty sure itz the combination of sagging/smokin weed that most ppl see durags inna negative light thatz why they see it that way n also ski masks aka sheistys which i will call it as also dont make u a thug the reason why them thugs wear it when they goin 2 hit a lick (robbery) or pullin a drive-by is cuz they aint tryna get caught out here (80% of the time they def gon get indentified lol) but anyways I do not condone the shyt they doin plus the reason why they r that way is cuz of 2 things
1: The environment they grew up around
