The most recent Ethiopian census was published in 2024, showing that the population of the Somali Region increased by 26.95% since the previous census in 2017, rising from 4,544,000 to 5,769,000. That’s an increase of 1,225,000 people but that’s still grossly underestimated.

Awbarre district is 519,044 in this 2024 census. Very consistent. That's like a 80k jump from the 2017 Ethiopian census. Still the largest district population by far.

Ethiopia and Kenya are not the same. Always assume Ethiopia is lying about Somalis. They have a long track record. Just like these UN agencies, they are malicious by design.

In Kenya most misinformation about Somalis is usually due to corruption, not state sanctioned policy. They have completely different approach regarding Somalis.

Interesting numbers

SR region number is most likely being nerfed, I expect 2x difference, while the SR government count 25m, I expect it to be around 12-15m.

So I expect Awbarre and Jigjiga to be about 1m, bot complete opposites, one has more urban pop while the other is rural.
