Somali ports shipping trafic

- Berbera is receiving so much traffic even before port upgrades are finalised, this is very impressive. Once new facilities are operational, activity will skyrocket.

- Mogadishu is capturing substantial traffic, but there is a lot of room for improvement.

- Djibouti is killing it, plain and simple. It will be very interesting to compare activity there once Berbera is up to speed.

- Bosaso is doing small business, but its a small port, and is massively geographically disadvantaged. It will get much worse for Bosaso when other ports like Hobyo and Maydh are built.

Berbera is the future of the region. Even the gulf used to be called gulf of aden was historically known as the gulf of Berbera :rejoice:

If Mogadishu didn't have safety issues it would be more indemand. Inshallah this will end soon and we will have maximum productivity.

Mogadishu has a good location, getting rid of the Turkish company should be a priority once things get better on the security front. Getting one of the larger operators will ensure Mogadishu is plugged into global shipping lines.

i agree once our security issues are solved and we have an honest government on our behalf the port and other foreign owned projects could be brought back into government ownership. I don't believe the Turks will be around forever.

We need a navy to protect the shipping lanes and our fish stock. Somalia needs to also invest in shipyards. Given our strategic position, we could service many ships and even build new ones. With Africa's biggest cost line we have to increase trade by sea.
