Somali non-Muslim professor: Secularism is the solution

I personally don't think I'd get killed if I went to Somalia and told my family. My aunt's husband is even a Shiekh. Worst case scenario, they'd curse at me tell me to never come back. Being from diaspora also gives you an advantage as you or your family are most likely sending them money. A native on the other hand, is fucked.

Most folks aren't really devout Muslims except in the really conservative areas. You're better off keeping it to yourself though. If you tell them you're a Muslim and don't pray or fast, they won't care. They'll just consider you an unsavory person. Somehow telling them you're non-muslim upsets them more than anything.

He is absolutely right. Allowing people to use religion in politics is always dangerous, especially in a very religious country like Somalia. It allows some politicians to claim that their political goals are sanctioned by god while those of their opposition are haraam. Religion in politics introduces an element of good and evil that can quickly spiral into violence. If the opposition is disagreeing with your policies then they must be disagrreing with god's intentions. And what do you do to someone disagreeing with god's intentions? They are to be killed.

Religion in politics, most of the time, gives mediocre thinking somewhere to hide from criticism that would expose it as intellectually bankrupt.

We can't have secularism as that goes hand in hand with being a cuck. Manipulating religiosity like Erdogan does is the way forward for Somalia.

It could lower the rape cases :manny:
There was over 1,600 rapes in Mogadishu in 2016, 1/3 of it being kids:kendrickcry::jcoleno:
Yet 1 in 6 women in America has been a victim of attempted or completed rape in her lifetime.

Ever thought perhaps that lawlessness has something to do with rape in Somalia? The fact that it's a war zone? No accountability? No security?

He is absolutely right, In our society, though the clan is bigger than religion, loyalty to a nation or to an any deology, the only alternative is secularism. But the brutal truth is every Somali belongs to a clan and any leader will be propped up by his or her clan and would be biased towards them regardless if they ruling on shariah laws or secularism. A brilliant ideology like secularism in order to succeed in a clan based society like Somalia, it should be led by a gay man or a lesbian woman. No Somali clan will claim them and it will be the end of clan political patronage. End of qabiilism. Let's kill one stone with two birds. My 2 cents..
