I have lived in the Gulf for a few years. As you know Somalia is not the only country that has gone through a devastating conflict in the Muslim world. That said I noticed when compared with their contemporaries from Muslim countries i.e Yemen, Syria, etc they have the most disproportionate amount of females who travel alone via Tahreeb.

You’ll see Yemeni families doing tahriib together, or men alone. Similar with other countries. It’s only us Somali men who have this zero honor dhaqan Honestly. So you’re in Somalia chewing qaad, while your wife, daughter is being approached by a Gulf man at night with oil in his hand saying give me a massage now.

Btw, I even in divorce I notice it doesn’t occur to Somali men that your daughter has your name, any dishonor she undergoes reflects on you.

I noticed Arabs, Pakistanis, others have this intense pride with their women Somalis don’t have.

Agree 100%, but I think the root underlying causes are simply the fact that they don’t really care one way or another which is unique to Somalis.

Our pride has been destroyed...100 years ago there was a strong sense of pride for our women but colonialism has done a number on us tbh

I see alot of females here in canada that tahriibed alone....and I dont blame them, deep down they know their in this dunya alone cause male family members either dont care or are to poor to help them

Plus alot of females dont realize the dangers of tahriibing until it's to late sadly.

Are they allowing it or is it rebelliousness, I’ve noticed a good percent people that grew up or lived in Mogadishu no matter what clan before the Gaax are absolutely finished when it comes to fatherly or husband responsibility, they’re gynocentric maybe it was the urbane cosmopolitan socialist environment

100%, no woman should do tahriib, the journey is harmful and dangerous for strong able bodied men, nevermind women. You WILL be exploited and harmed when doing tahriib, no way should anyone do it unfortunately but it is what it is.


We must take it into account that tahriib costs money, dad masakiins are not doing it, its somalis with money who do it. How can anyone let their daughters, moms, sisters go through this.

your assessment is an accurate one, we as somalis do not value anything we have, we do not protect what we have. we need to be making kingdoms of our own, small scale, taking in 1, 2, 3, or even 4 wives to protect them. this is the right path. and they need not be xalimos. if a brother really can't stand a xalimo then i do believe he should seek out wives from among other peoples, the important thing is building a family, a strong family, and then a dynasty
