The language spoken by our families for genarations will vanish in the west this is shown as kids use less somali vocab like hoyoo, abo, bariis, baasto and moos it's shocking that instead of learning our language we learn cadaan language:faysalwtf:nowadays:ayaanswag:

Not really. My cousin knows somali and i don't. It's just that my mother never taught me and i never urged her to and now i regret it but am starting to learn it.

This is where reer Scandinavia excel at. They will be able to pass the Somali language onto their children whilst reer UK & Canada won't.
:pachah1:

It will not fade my hooyo says all it takes is one year dhaqan celis and she is right it worked for many ppl.

I agree. I picked up the language within a couple months. To be fair though my parents purposely spoke to me in Somali when I was growing up. So I already spoke it semi fluently. Thing is though apparently Somalis in Kenya are losing the language too. So it’s not just a western diaspora issue.

It's a serious issue among majority of Somalis in the west.. My future kid will have broken Somali just like me :kendrickcry:

Trust me it's just whether the parents force the children to speak or not. Plenty of cadaan children with one european parent know both languages due to their parents speaking to their children.

That’s true. I think we should force all Somali children to do Somali language GCSE and A levels when I was in secondary school the Turkish and Asian kids did GCSEs in their language. I still remember french from secondary school. So maybe that will help in the West? This is actually a good thread.
