Are dynamics with Arabs different in the West? I'm often curious as to why qurbo folks in the west often seem so rabid toward Arabs. Anyone who grew up in the Middle-East or in East Africa wouldn't think this way and would generally be fond of Arabs who are usually very brotherly and loving toward Somalis, especially if you speak Arabic to them.
Hmm, I think it’s mainly perception on what people think Arabs are due to stereotypes and negative aspects you hear on media?
Gulf Arabs don’t really live in the West like that, they tend to come to study and tbh unless you have lived in the gulf, I remember seeing this brown guy in Uni not really being able to tell where he was from to finding out he was Saudi.
There is a lot of North African Arabs and for my understanding the Muslims are generally quite blessed.
Coming from a family who is from central Somalia (reer mudug) the opinions on Arabs weren’t great except towards those that were religious.
It’s weird because you can tell by the hate some Somalis and Muslims spew towards Gulf Arabs that they most likely never lived with them. Generally speaking a Somali is well more respected in the Gulf in comparison to the west.
From my opinion, sadly it’s from an inferiority complex which I don’t know why some Somalis and Muslims have towards Gulf Arabs.
They’re humans just like the rest of us, why are you surprised when you find out that they’re not perfect and that they to have aspects of their culture that goes against Islam. The first thing these people will respond is, is well why do you care about they’re country, people blah blah, they would call you abeed and wouldn’t care about you. They generalise a whole group of people.
Even if every Gulf person hated Somalis. Does that mean as Muslim I can’t want good for fellow Muslims.
As if I aspire to be like Gulf Arabs in the 21st century and not the Prophet Peace be upon him and the Salaf.
As much as some people hate Arabs they’ve put them on a pedestal that they don’t belong on. This is why their governments are held and people are held to a higher standard. Trust me when I say know the many Mis deeds of the gulf, it doesn’t make me act irrationally because in my heart i generally don’t believe they’re better by virtue of ethnicity.
This is why I treat them, the same way I would treat non gulf Arab Muslims.
It’s like when Some Blacks hold white people to a standard that they don’t hold people in their own community to. They believe White people deep down are better and so it’s justified to hold them to a higher standard.
Arabs are like other ethnicities some good and some bad. Nothing inherently special it ain’t a dig but the truth, if an Arab was to look down on me. I wouldn’t internalise as my self esteem tied to Identity being a Somali is intact and there they can say or do to lower it.
