Honestly, we dodged a bullet with the oil rush and not becoming cozy with the Americans over the USSR. I know that sounds crazy considering how ravaged by the civil war Somalia is and how poor and undeveloped it generally is both in the north and south but at least we're not as little as 10% of our own country's population like Emiratis. Those beautiful skyscrapers you see? Mostly lived in by non-Khaleeji Arabs, Cadaans, Timo Jileecs, Indhoyars and Africans of various sorts. Barely any native people to speak of. They literally built an entire massive country and all this infrastructure for ajanabis who aren't even citizens and won't be anytime soon. And all so they can have sky-high obesity, depression and drug use rates among their youth.
