It's no secret that many Somali females pursue certain degrees (psych, sociology, women & gender) for the sake of having a degree :sass2:

If there are any of you on ss: What are your long-term goals?

Personally, I believe we should strive to be more like the indo yar :qri8gs7: They understand not all degrees have the same value and push their children to rigorous, academic fields where there are better chances of finding employment :sass1:

In America it doesn't matter what your degree is in, what matters is where you went to school.

Also many STEM fields are now oversaturated because hordes of people (mostly Asian) have majored in them and are entering the job market, which also pushes down wages. To make matters worse, you really don't learn much in STEM fields. What you learn in computer science class today, for example, may be very well obsolete in five years due to a new language etc, and other STEM fields like chemistry and physics are so theoretical as to be useless.

yes we don't all have to be in STEM (notice I didn't mention it exclusively), I'm just curious what their life goals are since most choose soft majors (its like 15:1 as far as I am observing)

I always say, Somalia needs sociologists who can fix its fucked up social system rather than engineers who will build bridges and buildings that will just be brought down because Somalis don't know how to function in a civilized society.

My longterm goals are becoming a docter and then work in Somalia with the knowledge and experience from the west
Inshallah this will work out

Next year i will try to get accepted at a university
