Wallahi I am intrigued how he came to power with a no blood spilled coup. That's quite brilliant and legacy stuff. A bloodless coup is unknown in the world, he must of knew how to get to power without as least disruption to the existing system. @TekNiKo

Siyad didn't come and 'destroy' the system like Aideed which left a 30 year legacy of the worst period in Somali history which itself ironically is a legacy. Legacy to me is anything that has an impact on us for a long long time. I don't consider these politicians who are here for 4 years as 'legacy' type leaders, I can barely remember any of them and that's because they must not be 'gifted' states-man. So let's pray we do recieve someone who is a legacy type of guy, that can have Somalis talking for the next 50 years about him either positively or negatively is irrelevant, it's knowledge.

The things I admired about Siyad is

1. He didn't kill civilians or tribes after capturing power, it's political dee, maxaa ka rabta nin gurigisa ku jira oo awood'ba lahayn unlike SL who sent the whole damn army on 'dabcasar' geesi darod weeye walle. They wud need to bring all the ISAAQ, if I enter Hargeisa walle siday uu COYI LAHAYEEN

2. He did empower society with socialist idealogy not 'class' system of 'landheere' and 'langaab' and shit like that. There is no way my father would've survived the vicious 'class' politics of 1960-1969, they would've empowered 'landheer' type of clans within us and the same for all Somali clans in order to keep the system 'rigged' towards them and create an 'order structure. Siyad empowered all as long as u were the best person for the job.

3. Military legacy was his greatest feat and we actually became No 1 in something in Africa.

4. Obviously our ports, airports, roads, but ppl forget all the scholarship and 'elites' and 'brains' he developed for so many clans irrespetive.

5. Finally Somalia was actually respected nation. I could walk around in diaspora and say 'hey I may not run the country but I can point to a nation that is heading somewhere' to my 'peers in australia'.

Negatives I think I saw in him

1. His 77 war without 'foreign policy' engagement with RUSSIA. He needed to ensure the 'powerhouse' authorizes taking back what's our and no way for 'ethiopia' to then 'play politics'. Russians are negioable with their 'client states'

2. After 77 he turned 'tribal' in all his policies with rise of 'rebel groups'. I can't say that is negative of his, I would go tribal if all these clans are sitting in important place of trust and may sell it out to the enemy cuz their clan is 'rebel group'.

3. I don't see a problem with how he treated PL/SL. I would do the same in all honesty. If you want to fight dont cry when there is dead bodies, u won't hijack the whole state cause it doesn't suit your EMOTIONAL OUTBURST. The man was following scientific fuckin system of the socialism flavor and your following a 'I will create rebel group' and use the war defeat as an opportunity to recruit clans into 'nonsense'.

Wallahi when I review Siyad, I honestly say 'greatest leader' Somalia ever had. Cause prior to him, they were SHIT sxb, we just give them high profile, 'saamayn' wayn dalka kuma lahayn cause all they did was 'talk talk iyo shir shir' no 'actions, production, results'

The intra-hawiye war was fuelled by Djibouti conference electing Mahdi into power when Aideed had the city in his hand. That was the worst policy decision anyone could've made. Mamul kasto waxay dhaanta mamul la'an. Any job is better then no job right? you might not have perfect job and might be boring but no-one goes around and just throws it away, why? nothingness is the worst answer. Aideed led mogadishu interim untill elections should've been the somali policy so he can either prove himself or expose himself.

But to internationally recognize Mahdi from Jabuti as Somali-wayn, while aideed is like 'I did the hard work boys' well he really didn't. Siyad was softened up by SSDF/SNM for years kkkkk plus they fought a vicious urban war a new 'tactic' not conventional following SNM style(irir pact). There is some things incorrect about aideed history, the guy wasn't brave hero who threw out the govt. Plus no-one mentions siyad ran out of 'friends globally'. Aideed walked in when it was only 'm-o-d' as the army in his backyard aideed. Fighting in your backyard isn't the same as fighting in someone elses? the offensive guy only has 'limited number of boys' while surrounded by 'locals', it's not easy war style. But what really gave aideed was his urban tactics, they kept repeating it through-out the civil war era knowing it worked now it's switched to insurgency see what I mean.

I doubt u can show Siyad harming you if your not disturbing the law and order or peace. another point is that by 1990 only marehan and dhubahante was in the army, and our main force was in Hargeysa and burco.

SSDF at the start of the war was with USC so the army that was stationed in the north could not go south and defend the capital. when aideed started killing reer gaalkayco by the 100's is when the army moved from hargeysa and went to gaalkayco, but by then mogadishu was lost and marehan was on the retreat to gedo. the war now changed from offensive to defensive.

regarding aidiid, he was no leadership material, instead of bringing the people together he started killing civilians and taking away there properties. This is the case even in modern times, for example the recent coup attempt that took place in Turkey where some members tried overthrowing Erdogan tried to take power but ended up failing and many of the members that plotted were killed.

This is what happened with the clan based rebel groups. They thought their treasonous actions of trying to topple our government with the support of the Mengistu-Led Ethiopian government was going to have no consequences but they were wrong. They were purged for the most part, but these cowardly rebels usually used civilians as shields and in any battle where you use civilians as shields and do hit and runs against the military there will be casualties that result from that. The casualties were low, however our enemies were not looking for Siyad to be replaced. They were looking to destroy what was known at that time as the "Somali State" because it was an external threat to our neighboring countries interests. Ethiopia in particular, who funded and supported the insurgents in our country. What resulted afterwards of the toppling of our government was unimaginable shame that befall our nation and the colossal hit to our reputation around the world. The Anarchy caused for law and order to fall and the various warlords like Aideed went after civilians for "revenge" and was never qualified for leadership. Other things like Piracy, Seccisionism, Islamic-based insurgents, and AU peacekeeping forces are many of the unfortunate results of the toppling of our glorious government.

Today many of the families of those same warlords FLED Somalia and live abroad, but during the kacaan only people on official business or scholarships left the nation thus building a positive reputation for us. But now many of the low level REER BADIYO have also fled and are causing our reputation to suffer in diaspora countries with their poor level of educational attainment and criminal antics. It's a mess honestly, but as usual we will try to bring our prestige back however long it takes.
