Should men be working in childcare?

Just some background, recently in Australia, a man who worked across nearly 40 childcare centres was convicted of molesting young toddlers he worked with. To make the matters worse, he was infected with STDs and was contaminating food at these centres. This caused nearly 2000 kids to require testing.

The backlash as you can imagine was massive and caused centres to outright ban men from nappy changing, bathroom duty or any situation that might result in them being alone with the child; very controversial.

I agree with this decision. I cannot understand why a man would want to work with children that young in a childcare centre except that they are some type of weirdo.If you want to work with kids go teach primary

this opens up a pandoras box. I think men should be able to work in childcare settings and change children and babies WITH the parents consent and WITH extensive background checks and be properly vetted to make sure he isnt a felon. Also monitoring by other staff at all times during it and having 1 female there just in case anything happens. (This happens during gynecology exams)

Logically, I agree with you but I struggle to be that in this situation. I don’t want a strange man near my kids and I feel that deeply idk why. Childcare centres are already iffy for me. I could never entrust someone I am responsible for with a stranger let alone a man. I get why people do it but my mind would go crazy with worst case scenarios.

This reminds me when my mom worked in childcare in Sweden there was only one guy there my mom would always be near him checking whats he doing because she was unsure about him keeping others safe, white pll would say that's discrimination but it isn't really when this kind of disgusting things happen that you mentioned sure not always but it's a possibility

Yes people are evil regardless of gender. For every case of male workers that do stuff like this I can give you 100 female workers that have done the same.

Thats a very big stretch, most child molestation cases are perpetrated by men obviously ( same with most sexual crimes). I kind of agree tho, you should be wary about leaving your kids with strangers in general, regardless of gender. There needs to be extensive background checks, plus multiple workers to watch one another and cameras.

Thats disgusting. Not childcare but definently in grades 1-12. Many need strong male role models. Theres a severe lack of male teachers, many of whom leave the field.

No men in daycare or preschool programs but there should definitely be male teachers in schools. Women are natural nurturers of extremely young children, once a child has slightly grown up is when a man is needed to also be a proper role model.
