Fahad Yasin has chosen to put his resources behind Shirdoon after his fall out with Farmajo and the latter is entering the 2026 elections off his own strength as ex-president just as Hsm did.

I wouldn’t be too surprised if Shirdoon ends up the dark horse that takes the kursi in 2026. There is only one certainty in Somali politics; money talks.

Qatar is not really that invested anymore, Fahad got lucky but his influence has been fading. The UAE on the other hand is much more invested in Somalia and has become more important to have on your side than Qatar.

Whoever has qatari backing still needs to take on two contenders who already have access to state coffers in addition to UAE money.
