I'd like to know what's with Somali parents not telling their kids they love them. Is it considered ceeyb to tell their kids 'I love you' in Somali culture?

I get the way they like to show love by their actions but kids need words too.
I've even heard someone say telling your kids you love them will make them spoilt and have qibr. Lol what?!

because saying I love u never get their job(parenting ) done, while what they have done for you which counts.

words of affirmation matter it gives you self-confidence and real sense of love from your parents. Actions mean nothing if they never out right say it , you are just interpreting what they are doing as love. ( Not attacking yall just my opinion)

My parents are very soft people, I used to get good morning kisses from both my parents and my dad used to read me and my siblings bed time stories almost every night. My entire life my dad hit me only twice and both times he hit me only with a slap. One time when i called mom a and one time when i stole his car.

I feel bad when i hear about some Somali parents being cold, distant, aggressive or mean because that is not what i experienced. I'm so grateful to have such kind and loving parents.

which begs the question, Why did i grow up to be such an asshole?

That's good, but I think its because you're a women. If you have brothers, your mother plays that role whereas as your father is far less likely to say he loves them. As in the case of the girl it is the mans job to shower the girl with love and the mother to be more reserved.

My father would rarely say he loves me but my mother would do it. When your raise kids, that is generally how dynamic should be.
