Saudi FM: We Have Other Options if Washington Abandons Nuclear Deal

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir reiterated on Thursday that Iran was the source of terrorism in the region, accusing it of meddling in the internal affairs of other countries and violating international laws.

“We are working on containing Iran and we have other options if the US abandoned the nuclear deal,” he told a forum discussion at the Brookings Institution in Washington.

He described the 2015 agreement reached between Tehran and world powers as “flawed”, especially in regards to inspection methods.

“The deal will not resolve the problem with Iran,” stressed Jubeir.

Furthermore, he said that Saudi Arabia has been suffering since the 1979 Iranian revolution from Tehran’s hostile policies.

“Despite everything, we have extended our hand for friendship, but we were always met with destruction,” he remarked, adding that Iran must be held accountable for its actions and violations.

Addressing the crisis in Syria, he stressed that the solution there must be political.

“The Iranian influence and Shi’ite militias are hindering this solution,” Jubeir explained.

On Yemen, he said that Saudi Arabia did not choose to go to war, “but it was forced on it.”

He also accused the Iran-backed Houthi militias of turning their back against the political process in Yemen.

The minister stressed however the importance of reaching a political crisis to the war, stressing that Riyadh and Washington have worked for years on combating terrorism.

Military cooperation between the two sides goes back to several decades, he noted.

To be honest bro, the Saudis have the west by the balls but it's due to lack of foresight from the west back in the early days of oil exploration. But you know where the Saudis are going if it's not the west don't you? it's Russia and with all credit going to Russia even though they have good politicians watch a bit of RT news some-time, but you can't rely on a man's mouth, you gotta look at his actions and their messing around in a region that is clearly intended to hurt other nations who depend on it.

That's fucked up and their asking for trouble, why don't they build themselves up without intentionally looking to hurt others or bring others down? it's ball busting and it shows they lost their A-game long time ago and playing B-game of let's threaten other countries and thru that negiotate how to make ourselves a power again. Besides honestly a nuclear option with Saudi Arabia is not wise, you don't want to complicate the order as it is.

The more states that have nukes statistically the more chance it will be used goes up. The second it gets used, it will have a knock-on effect across all the nations who are connected to the nation attacked and yes everyone is connected in someway or another with someone else be it trade, security, politics, military, etc. It's not a good recipe at all to increase the numbers of nuclear countries. I doubt Saudis will actually do it though and again this is their 'words' and I aint following words sxb you can't rely on words you look at actions, once they take their money out of wall street and america investments, then I know OH SHIT their fuckin serious and gone rogue cause they know america wont stay alive if they ally with russia cuz if russia gives em a nuke(I think they will say we will sell it to you rather then let u design it yourself, that's if their smart) Then Russia will want something back in return and it's clearly getting the saudis to accept russia foreign policy direction towards the west which I am sure the saudis will do for a nuke.

Russia foreign policy to the west is simple, allow us to be a power again, it's nothing else at all beyond that and they envision they can do this by using it's leverage in the mid-east which the west depends on and the west will need to start sacrificing heaps as they are now caught by the balls by Russia. This may mean Russia influence again spreads back to it's old empire days. It may mean the west drops support for countries that Russia wants influence again. It can mean many things. But it's clearly empire building tactics but it's a very B-GAME type of empire building which is all centered around ball busting the powers that are there today and thru that rising once more.

Notice Iran rose immediately after the the oil embargo in Saudi Arabia, I think the Americans knew what they inherited from their predecessors was a dependency on saudi arabia which was 'one way relationship' and in saudi favor, so they just sat back and let Iran threatening regime rise and balance the relationship evenly by saying to the saudis, if we step away, iran will eat you who has russia selling it arms. But the rise of Iran and saudi king Faisal oil embargo ban are quite close in time-period and appears the west probably has a hand in here also with Iran ayatollah shia based state coincidentally rising up right after that.

I am not sure why developing or middle income countries seek nuclear weapons, it's just a wasted resource, duplicating what is already available. Let some other nation waste money into that and then go under the nuclear umbrella, it's far easier and safer while getting your nation to focus on developing something radically different to a nuclear. I really do believe their are some weapons even if you do create it's better just deleting as it will create a continous race and doesn't really give you an edge but a stalemate in the end.

They don't even need to test the high yield bombs with today's high performance computing and simulation tools.

The Saud royal House (or it's main branches) are doing what's best for themselves.

The country hasn't built itself up to be a strong military power for a reason.

The more incompetent the defense apparatus (as well as the security sector) the less likely they'll ever be a coup.

That's their biggest priority and their doing fine so far.

The huge military spending is actually just to buy protection and as a store of value.

If they ever need some cash they could always sell high quality military equipment in the black market.
