Its some what true, the Samburu and the Rendille, both have substantial Somali ancestry. I was reading an old colonial book about Kenya, and it talked about how young Somali bachelors who came to Kenya in colonial would marry from either the Masai or the rendille and Samburu. I have also personally been told by a rendille guy that their ancestor goes back to Somalis.
The famous book " Out of Africa" by Karen Blixen talks about this.
