Ruling on use of toilet paper(in shafi'ism)

The ruling in the shafii school of thought is that it is permissible even if you have access to a surplus of water, the requirements for it's completion of procedure is that it be with something dry, non slippery, and it is karahiya to use bones, so things like rocks, sticks and derivatively paper. Many scholars of the shafii school have gone different lengths in this matter but here's a source of umdah by imam abi abbas

A misconception nowadays is that you absolutely need water, and can't use toilet paper. Toilet paper is fine and the sahaba used stones. I think the best would be to use a combination of paper and water.

Just use a bidet and dry of with toilet paper.

No need to have the smell of xaar lingering around you.
