I found this excerpt from a French book describing different religious lineages in Somaliweyn

Yes I'm well aware of this, the Ogadeen's call it Aw iyo Ogadeen. I can only speak on my tribe, Ogadeens maintain the Xeer among the Aw Clans (mag, marriage, water rights, protection) in return so that the Aw Clans don't make Dua against them and/or make the Aw families teach their kids.

This culture quickly died out after modernisation, The Hawiyes have a slightly different understanding (Wadaad families although have different lineages are apart of the tribe, unlike the Ogadeen one being separate from the host clan). I'm fairly sure, Isaaqs didn't have Wadaads and Waranles.

The protected clans or Aw clans of the Ogadeen are:
- Weyteen Absame (Darood)
- Abba Yoonis Geri Koombe (Darood)
- Gadsan (Mahe Dir)
- Aw Qutub (Sheekhal)
- Aw Hassan (Ashraaf or maybe Sheekhal)
- Certain Ashraaf clans like; Shariif Hassan, Shariif Maqbuul and etc

Likewise these clans marry into Ogadeen to solidify ties, what stops Ogadeen tribes from looting them is how very integrated these clans are to them and how the Ogadeen were actually religious in contrast to their neighboring tribes. In Conclusion although Ogadeens were warring constantly they were superstitious.

Yes I have heard of Aw iyo Ogaden I think the most famous Aw group is sheekhaal aw qutub they are the main religious lineage living amongst OGs am I right ?

@GaradShabeel do you know the anything about the religious history of the abba Yonis they seem to be mentioned a lot regarding this subject

Yeah, reer Sh. AY is a well known Somali wadaad lineage which started with Sheekh Abba Yoonis himself. Most of his sons were sheekhs as well such as Sh. Cali, Sh. Muuse, Sh. Aw Maame and several others. Over the centuries, the descendants of Abba Yoonis have been devoted to religious affairs and spreading the deen, both among Somalis and other ethnic groups living west of us. It's the reason why you can pretty much find beesha AY spread throughout Somaliweyne today.

Mashallah great information and history very few of these lineages seem to exist amongst daaroods from what I’ve noticed

Yes, the ones we know in Ogaden land are.
Wayteen
Aba Yonis of Geri
Shekhaash
and Aw Hassan who sometimes are claimed by shekhaal but they maintain they do not belong to them.

Yeah xer muumin is LLK when it comes to mainland Somalia we are culimada amongst Daarood both central and koonfur a lot of Somalis are just now starting to be aware of our scholarly work

MashAllah. We need to make sure that our religious history of our ancestors become more mainstream so we can appreciate their fruition and their efforts for our community and beyond. I would love to know more about other clans as well. Good thread btw.

Walahi I'd say 90% of manuscripts in Somaliweyn is kept in private collections by these elders. We must have these all copied and put online and in library

What about Sheekhaal Cali cafiif?

As for reer aw xassan, then they used sheekhaal title initially but recently started claiming that their ancestor aw xassan kalweyne was from ashraaf ba alawi. Either way, the ones that use sheekhaal title or ashraaf title all claim descent from aw xassan kalweyne but differ on wether he's ashraaf ba alawi or not

Sheekhaal is merely a title, not a group to belong to, wether you say reer aw xassan or sheekhaal aw xassan then only difference is the praise in using sheekhaal title.

I believe there was religious clans responsible for rain prayers, blessings, etc, before Islam amongst Somalis and some other East Cushitics. Yibir were a religious clan before Islam spread.

Even the term Wadaad is pre Islamic Wad(death) Aad(goes towards death or has an abundance knowledge about the afterlife).

Ps. Fiqishini are a sheikh clan who settled with Dhulbahante.
