It's a common misconception but it follows the ruling that they have to be 16 when they vote. Political commentators don't like to read the law as it's not clear cut but it was signed off by Cirro multiple times over the years.

The age of maturity question was raised where people interpreted the word 'qaangaadh' to mean fifteen (15) years of age, as stipulated in Islamic law (buloug).
