Very sensible answer.Over the years i have heard many claims, that he was Isaaq, MX, Gadubursi, Dir, Hawiye, Karanle, Kablalax or even an Oromo.
But the fact remains that everyone and I mean everyone claims Hero's like Ahmed Gure, but it takes a real ones to make their own history.
As for Ahmed Gurey his clan was never said but that he was Somali and that alone should be enough for us all.
P,s only a langaab claims a centuries old dead man.
Axmed Gurrey was Isaaq Habar Magaadle chief and military commander of Imam Axmed army according to Futuh Al Habesha book

اول قبيلة وصلت الي الامام قبيلة هبر ماجدلي مع سيدهم و مقدمهم احمد جري بن حسين الصومالي
The first tribe to reach the Imam was the Haber Magaadale tribe with their chief and their leader, Ahmed Guray bin Hussein Al-Somali."
Emir Ahmed Gurrey, known to the Ethiopians as Ahmed Gran. The emir himself was almost certainly from one of the pre-Somali peoples around Harar, but Somalis from a number of clans, particularly the Gorgora, a clan that probably originated around Zelia, certainly fought in his armies. Ahmed himself probably had no direct links with Somalis other than recruiting them, but his mythic value was substantial. He had launched a highly successful jihad against Ethiopia in the 1530s.
