Historical records match the local records the Europeans recorded about Karanle clan leadership. The Garaads were Gidir by birth right then Sehawle Karanle the same bah as Reer Ceelbuur became Garaads, that only changed back in the last 200 years (Sehawle) have an Ugaas
Over the years i have heard many claims, that he was Isaaq, MX, Gadubursi, Dir, Hawiye, Karanle, Kablalax or even an Oromo.
But the fact remains that everyone and I mean everyone claims Hero's like Ahmed Gure, but it takes a real ones to make their own history.
As for Ahmed Gurey his clan was never said but that he was Somali and that alone should be enough for us all.

The Imam Axmed ethnicity and Qabil is unknown as there's no mention of it in historical accounts
People confuse imaam Ahmed ibraahim Alghazi with Ahmed gurey from Habar magaadle clan who fought alongside the imaam
Imam ahmed was born in the town of hubat in harar and his Family were the ancestral rulers of the town
His clan background is Sexawle karanle hawiye.
Hubat is historically inhabited by the karanle clan and till this today its a town inhabited by his sub clan karanle
But people deliberately ignore this fact to claim him
