Random thoughts on Somali culture

A Laandheere always pays his debts
Just thinking aloud here about Somali genesis, our culture & Arabia.

The striking resembelance between the Somali and the Arabian (at least during the time of the Prophet SAW):

- Nomadic
- Highly tribal
- Generosity & hospitality
- Fulfilling of pledge
- Trial & denial of shame & injustice
- Firm will & determination
- Perserverance & deliberateness
- Simple life

Whoever reads the Sirah will realise how intimately close Somali culture & norms are to Arabian culture. Honestly, we should be so proud that Somalinimo is Islam at its core and this religion is interwoven into our life, culture and behaviour. Literally, this country is shaped by the Sunnah (from the way we live & earn, to our sleeping pattern, to the way our women behave to our shame culture and of course our clans - everyone loves to bash clans but why didn't our Prophet SAW remove it from his own if it is as cancerous as people say it is?!?!)

I actually subscribe to the theory that pre-Somali identity (so before 10th-11th century), those living on these lands were wiped away as punishment for worshipping Waaq and other idols, thus cleared the way for Somalis, a nation that only knows Islam and to be Somali means to be Muslim, as we are an ethnoreligion Alxamdullilah. This is actually a blessing when you look at it from the POV of Bid'ah, as Somali culture will be heavily (not always) shaped by Islam, unlike Sub-Continent Islam which still have clear and undeniable remnants of Hindu and Buddist culture in their Islamic practice. Somalis issues aren't that Alxamdullilah but rather pre-Islam (Jahiliya Arabia) traits (minus the Shirk) is embedded into us such as being immensely tribal, being hard-headed and stubborn, racism.

We hear too often Somali issues, but sometimes I honestly just say Alxamdullilah we have been given a culture that is (mostly) in line with Islam given its an interwoven relationship. The 5 parts to the Xiidig both reflect the 5 regions but also the 5 pillars. There are 114 sub-regions within Somaliweyn, that also reflect 114 chapters of the Qur'an. Somalinimo is Islamnimo.

There were somali gaal tribes around not too long ago. 200 - 300 years ago they had decent numbers in Gedo and Shebelle Hoorse.

We also had gaal like traits in our nomadic culture like renovation for "sacred branches" that nomads carried around for protection against spirits & unmarried girls going about unveiled.

What happened to them?
Lots of things. Some were assimilated into Digil iyo Mirifle when they were migrating from Bale into Southern Somalia a few centuries ago, others became clients under Warra Dayya Oromos after they expanded into Southern Somalia during the gaal madow wars, and others migrated into Kenya to avaid other Somalis and Oromo aggression into their lands.

You see Madinle bordering right under El Wak on this map? They were one of the gaal madow tribes. Currently they're under Digil iyo Mirrifle as a subclan of Eelaay

Imagine a religiously diverse somalia, third world war would have taken place:dead: Islam came in contact with somali tribes in the north first and then these tribes migrated far south to spread it so its plausible that qabiils in far south stayed non muslim for a longer time

Facts all of us besides Raxanweyn originated from the north & north west at some point in the last 1.4k years. Abgaal is buried in sanaag & now his decedents have dominated banaadir for centuries. It'scrazy how far muslims expanded in a short time :mindblown:

Oh for sure a lot of it is made up baloney personally I don't believe Samaale even existed lakiin clans itself have some truth to them. From what I've seen lots of different Darood who've done DNA tests do decent from the same man 900 years ago which corresponds to their supposed clan founder date.

The majority of Dir seem to have descended from a group of related men carrying specific subclade within T-L208, with common progenitor, I'm not as well versed on other clans.

Most likely Mesopotamia, from my understanding most T carriers originate from the Zagros mountains which span, Turkey, Armenia, Iraq and Iran.

No exact date for the time of arrival but it would have been around the same time as E-V32 Somalis.

This is only for paternal ancestors, the majority of Somalis at the autosomal level are the closest to each other.
