Not sure if the white racial label is a great comparison considering how exclusive it is in comparison to the all encompassing nature of the black one, but what you're saying makes sense.
To be honest I've always wondered how people of such disaparate backgrounds and cultures could all be invested in one label. It's definitely not a perfect system, I feel like things would be easier if "white" and "black" didn't exist. At least then people would be forced to have pinpoint precision with their ethnic stereotypes and insults.

I think the reason a lot of people (Somalis included) are bothered by the use of the word "black" is that they seem to think it implies that we are the same as west/south/central Africans, which we are obviously not. And a lot of people do think that; that anyone who is "black" has to have the same general look and ancestry, as well as culture. So I think they are justified in their thinking, and also not at the same time, since racial categories don't actually mean that everyone within that race is somehow the same. It's a nuanced topic for sure.
I don't know about your point about the portuguese and greeks, the ones I've seen are identical to "regular" whites in appearance, it's just that some of them tend to have a darker, more olive skin tone due to more sun in Southern Europe. It's nowhere near the same as the difference between Horn Africans and literally all other Africans, where the difference is on an anatomical level instead of skin-tone.
