Question to Atheists

Hey all, since Ramadan is around the corner it got me thinking more about religious themes. One thing I've been thinking about is why so many Somalis who leave the deen also turn atheist. I fail to see the direct connection between leaving organized religion and atheism. Like a lot of thinking men, I've been through my own Imaam Al-Ghazaali moment, where I battled skepticism and doubt, and had to re-examine everything I had taken for granted about Islam. Alhamdulillah I came out of that phase with stronger belief in the deen than before it. But even at the height of my theological crisis, I never once doubted the existence of God.

So my question to the Somali atheists on this site is...After leaving Islam, why did you also turn to atheism? If in your eyes Islam is man-made, does that also have to mean there is no God?

Muslims of all types who leave Islam turn to atheism; it's not just a Somali thing. So do ex Christians and others.

I asked my friend this very question and he said science offers a better explanation to things he's questioned than religion has.

Yes, ur right about that, Muslims of all types do. Just focusing on Somalis here cuz it's a Somali forum, even though I could've phrased it better instead of making it look like a Somali-only phenomenon.

But even with the science thing, I still don't see how the explanations given by science can lead to atheism. Science explains the inner workings of the natural world. Essentially it answers the what and how (and sometimes why) questions in respect to the natural laws, but it cannot illuminate the source of these laws or whats called 'the first cause'. The science-religion dichotomy is a Christian dilemma, one that doesn't exist in Islam as far as I can gather.

Probably because whether a god exists or not isn't relevant in this life and some people don't believe they're living for an afterlife.

The Somali who were subjected to religious abuse like VixR choose to be atheists. The others who refuse to be bound by the shackles of shariah such as wearing the hijab, praying 5 times a day, fasting etc..do believe in a higher being.

This is called the "God of the Gaps" fallacy. When there's a gap of knowledge, you try to fill it with "God did it" which is illogical. The correct position to take when confronted with a gap of knowledge is a simple "I don't know".

Also the science vs religion debate is very well and alive in Islam too, not just Christianity. I seen an Imam in Saudi Arabia say the world doesn't revolve around the sun and that Muslims should not follow the science of the west.

LOL. Does me insulting your precious allah hurt your feelings? Sheesh... The lengths you guys go to defend this pathetic Arab camel fucking religion

There you go with the insults again.
Proves my earlier point that you are somewhat intellectually declined.

Listen buddy.
I bet u didn’t even know that atheism is also a religion.
The reason being you can’t prove Allah doesn’t exist.

I think you're the one who's intellectually declined.

Definitions of Religion:
1. the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods.

2. A particular system of faith and worship

Atheism doesn't fit either of those definition so it's not a religion.

And how would someone prove something doesn't exist? You cannot gather evidence for non-existence. It's on you to prove your precious Arab meatrider Allah exists.

I’ve struggled with the concept of creationism since primary school and God as described by Muslims and in particular by Somalis was a punitive, angry and a mighty being whose sole existence was to punish people who don’t conform to a set of rules like prayers and Ramadan. As I grew up, a dogmatic version of the religion emerged and came to light to me. In addition to that, most things quoted in the Koran was either plagiarised from preceding faiths or didn’t add up and thus required Hadiths to fill in the gaps. Allah claimed the Koran is “majestic and complete” and challenged Mohamed to produce a book like that. Mohamed obliged. But 200 years later under the rule of one of the worst Muslim dictatorships of all times, Muslims just managed that and produced that book and called Hadiths and is now viewed as an integral part of Islam. Understanding this in its totality made it easier for me to conclude that religion is man made whose original intention was to create governance. That’s where I’m today.
