Qalas: what does it mean?

Ismacil Mire was the first to have used the word in the following poem:
[ Qadhle awr ah, qoodh karinliyo karima qaad weyn leh,
Qallanjiinka geeliyo, lo'iyo qalab cammuudaas ah,
Iyo ciirtii qaman weyn ee habladu qun ugu xiidhayso,
Qalbigaa jeclaystaye adduun, qani ahaan waah.

Qabaal darib ah, qaarwaax cusba leh, qabay la soo buuxshay,
Qaxwe shaah ah, malab qooshaniyo qalab la geedeeyey,
Qalbigaa jeclaystaye adduun, qani ahaan waah.

Ina qooqan iyo looshane iyo qaabil iyo tuurre,
Iyo qadow caleemeed baryaan col ugu qooxnaaye,
Oo aan qalqaalada jihaad, 'qalas*' u saarraa].

* It has been suggested to mean:
  • Name of a strong war horse with speed, and pace.
  • A given name to an adventurous, brave young man with his sword afloat, if off sheath more often than not.
I would venture its root is 'khalas - ุฎู„ู‘ุต ' which one of its meanings is 'free', or 'let escape', but that is a quandary for the linguists.
