Someone give me an explanation of what this is and why I’m giving away my good hard earned money in the name of qabil? I’m being told that I have to start paying it

I’m paying money for folks all in the name of Reer hebel hebel aa isku tihiin. I told my dad I’m not going to but he’s not taking it very well.
Qaaraan by itself is a bit funny, like no qabiil brought my grandparents out of Somalia, no qabiil invested in mine, parents or grandparents futures. We had to do everything by ourselves, so the idea of throwing away money in the name of qabiil has always been a little strange to me even though I've been contributing for the past 7-8 years or so.
But lafta ka dhashay basically have this thing where your commit to a certain amount every month ($500-$2000) and that money gets invested into businesses owned by the tolka. After we get our profits from these investments, a small percentage in the area of 10-15% of the profit (Not the total) gets deducted and used for qaaran in order to help the poor, orphans, build wells, hospitals, housing etc...
This way I'm eating, and everyone else is eating too. And frankly I prefer it much better this way.
