Qaabil vs Qaabilism

Thank you for creating this topic!

I like the use of qabiil as a social welfare community and an economic union.
For instance, the way MJs mobilised to fund their own port in Garacad. If every qabiil practised social welfare, there would be no real abject poverty. Use it to help not to attack others.

In addition, qabiil helps identify ethnic Somalis from foreign interlopers who have dangerous agendas. Like land expansionist Oromos and other spies and enemies.

I think qabiil is needed to an extent.
  • used to keep record of family
  • if a child is lost, people know their lineage
  • it unites people and divides them.
  • it creates a sense of familiarity between people
it is fine to acknowledge who you are but if you let it out of your hands and make it a personality trait.. that is Qabiilism.

Qabil, talking about it, being proud of your history, and wanting the best from them and trying to do so is not only harmless but is productive

envy, hatred, belittlment, and other forms of divisive rhetoric towards other qabils will lead to division and the destruction of ourselves. This is a huge problem in Somalia and with Somalis in general past and present and is a main reason why we are in the situation we're in

We need mass reconciliation between Somali tribes

Their is nothing wrong with knowing who your forefathers are and your relatives extended through your clan. Its great that we can use this knowledge to support our families and deegans.

However, we shouldn't use it to celebrate others suffering or celebrate each other deaths. We are still muslims and the commands of Allah S.W.T should always surpass that of man.

Adapt it to gain something guud there are 1000s of ways one can honor their family and clan outside of killing each other. Like education, military service dedicating one self to science or god, sports building a business inventing shit. so on with a bit modifications and changing through education both qabil and qabyaad could benefit somali society as whole.

When your forefathers were destitute illiterate nomads, it's kind of weird you continue their tradition.

Well I'm not illiterate and modern life has changed the lives of Somalis in a thousand ways. We don't live parallel lives to them and should take the good and outroot the bad.

Qabil is a beautiful thing, you can just name your abtiris if you find yourself stranded anywhere in Somalia and folks will point you in the right direction until you find your kin.

Qabil only becomes deadly when it is used for the wrong things. Competition is another issue that creates divison and envy within certain communities. That's how hatred is born.

I can’t lie I’m a qabiliste..Majerteen markaan maqlo wax aa igu kaco, I do feel like someone is closer to me because of abtirsi because that’s how ehelnimo works. I’m my fathers daughter first then Reer hebel then Reer hebel and that’s how people are assorted with me the same way your brother is closer to you than your cousin and one has more rights upon you. Even the prophet (saw) said your ghurabaa are those you count 4 to as in everyone that comes under those four forefathers. It shows the importance of qaraabo; when you need help or housing or anything they are the ones you go to - it’s a safety net.
Qof lafahaada garanaayo is not the same as someone you have no association with.
Someone that knows your grandparents and your great grandparents can not be made equal to someone that knows you from jack and these are usually within the qabil.
Laakin qabyaalad as in hating someone for being something else is khalad, treating someone differently because of qabil is obviously wrong.
other tribes are somali and that’s what we come together upon.
And when you love your qabil you will love Somalinimo

Anti-qabil
Qabil is fundamentally antiquated and divisive. Whatever benefits it brings is outweighed by its deleterious social effects. We need to be like the rest of world and move past it.

As long as qabiils exist, qabyaalad will exist. I view Somali qabiils as a mere lineage, nothing is important about it and the negatives heavily outweighs the positives. It was needed back then for primitive nomads as a form of protection and community cohesion but it isn't needed now.

Clan is divisive but so is everything else humans have created. Us vs them is in the human brain. We should learn to accept that.

Qabiil is necessary for a lot of social safety nets in somalia.
For all those who say qabil is a safety net ehat about somaliness as a safety net? Somalis help each other a lot in the west, if there is a somali in need in Europe or Usa the community will help regardless of qabil. I've seen somalis helping each other a lot, especially in countries were there are not many of us. You will see northeners and southeners sticking together.
Wallahi if somalis treated each other with the same generosity we have when we are abroad Somali wouldn't be in such a bad shape

Somaliness is also like this. If you are aborad and need help you can approach any somali you see walking down the street and they will help you regardless of Qabiil
