I read somewhere that Ethiopia has plans to share embassies with Somalia and Eritrea. Think I read it like a year ago, forgot the source, are they still panning on doing this?

Honestly, it's surprising that this relationship didn't collapse sooner.

Geopolitically, the two should be 'natural' enemies, only the fear of Somalia kept them together and even then, Kenya did not rush to support Ethiopia in the Ogaden war

Makes perfect sense geopolitically.

Eastern Africa is moving in two directions: the Horn clique and the EAC

Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania etc. have made their Swahili language club known as the EAC, including non-Swahili speakers Rwanda and Sth Sudan, expecting those nations to adopt Swahili. Kenya is not interested in Horn clique joining the club as it would mean Somali, Amhara, Oromo will take precedence over Swahili and therefore erase their soft power.

The Horn clique is Somalia, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Eritrea. These four nations are the more strategically located nations in the region and is currently the scene of bidding wars between ME and Western powers. For these countries, it makes sense to be joined at the hip as it means they present a united front to any foreign powers attempting to invest or seek allies in the region. This allows for the nations to get better deals rather than having powers exploiting their weaknesses.

Issues like the maritime dispute, GERD dam and the Tigray conflict are side conflicts in the overarching paradigm shift we are witnessing in the region.

PM Abye yesterday in Parlaiment said he was looking into closing upto 30 foreign missions run by Ethiopia abroad in a move due to austerity measures.
He said the Embassy in Nairobi was irrelevant and counter productive and didnt represent well Ethiopia and hence was irrelevant at this point of time.

The Ethiopian Ambassador today claimed otherwise but his words dont hold weight.

@xabashi @Abba Sadacha whats Pastor Abiy doing closing Kiinya embasy? Nations usually maintain spying operations inside their embassies at other nations, especially neighboring nations

The law enforcement operation/war against TPLFF could not have inflicted that much damage on AddisAbaba budget

Don't over think it's cuz of Tigray war and gerd situation with int'l community stopped sending aids is why he's closing embassies the era of Ethiopia hegemony in the region and the dream of becoming powerful African leading nation is completely shattered by Ethiopia's internal political disputes.

The GERD situation and Tigray war is proxy conflicts in a larger geo-political shift imo.

Maybe that was the reason for closing, laakin I was making an observation at the way the region is moving atm. There are two clear groups at the moment and Ethiopia/Kenya are the leaders.
