UAE were anti-Farmaajo due to his Qatar friendship and how he directly interfered in their blockade of Qatar by allowing to use Somalia’ airspace to bypass the airspace embargo. They had nothing to lose with him kicking them out of Xamar.

UAE backed HSM and now want good relations with FGS so HSM doesn’t pivot to Qatar who are courting him right now. He’s set for a state visit very soon, Somali politics is a game of chess. Don’t take it to heart or think I’m advocating, just providing context through what I’ve read and heard.

Somalia doesn’t recognize Somaliland, its Not out of xaasidnimo. Believe it or not Somaliland gets more aid money then some loyal states.

His leverage is he’s a UAE ally. If UAE calculates FGS > PL relationship then he has leverage. I bet if UAE loses the next election in Somalia they’ll get back to their policy of ignoring FGS.

Farmaajo was a Qatari ally and they spent 100s of million on his election. So UAE of course went ahead with Berbera
