It seems like most Somalis or a disproportionate number of Somalis that support Al-Shabab usually come from minority or marginalized clans. Most of them are not ideologically committed to Al-Shabab (only a tiny minority are and they are usually foreign fighters) but they prefer them as a much lesser evil alternative then being displaced or persecuted by rival clan militias who are more powerful than them so they prefer to be ruled by terrorists instead.
