Our family bought land in Somalia (no idea where)

I paid £1000 (about the same in dollars). I'm guessing all of us together it equals like 5000
Was this a waste of money? When I paid, I wasn't expecting to see anything back but when I think about it, I want a cut :comeon:
We got documents and everything.

I bought some land in my hometown and is maintained by my relatives.
I've heard if the nightmarish stories of Qurba joog being ripped off because we aren't in the country to deal with squatters and the lot.

Disputes about land and property is a way of life in Somalia. Unless you come from a rich background (government) you will be a fish on land sir. «Gacanta midig aa lugu duuba» Ive lost count of how many times ive heard this phrase.

It's a family scam. They ask you to give money to buy land or something and it's lost forever. I have been given the runaround for years about land investments that apparently belong to me and there is supposed to be paperwork but no one shows me anything. They show me the paperwork once to peek and they take it back. I ask for pictures and they say "OK" but none are provided. They also provide no update or information on the camels I was forced to purchase. Are they still alive or were they slaughtered for Eid? I don't ask anymore. What irks me is they force you and force you but when it comes time for me to get any info, radio silence.

Give up. It's gone. Let the poor people take it. $5000 per plot is way too low. Sounds unbelievable and 1990s/early 2000 prices. You were scammed in two ways.

I think what happened to you, and myself, was you contributed to buying the plot of land or contributing to the pool of money to protect the clan from other clans purchasing land in the area in the town/city. I heard of this from a relative regarding something unrelated but this seems to be case. Even your reer abti will tell you to contribute and even the ones who don't care about qabiil dynamics will still contribute for the same of the clan. In this case I heard, they were staving off a non-local businessman from a different clan.
