Our diaspora is getting more interested in our ethnic identity

I am ( well we are) witnessing a time where a lot of the diaspora are getting more involved with their native culture. Through social media and real life I have seen it.

While most of it has been superficial, many have started to get involved more in depth.

I can’t seem to find a reason for it but, it could be our ethnocentric culture or overall rise in identity politics in the west. As a result of the latter, people latch on to their ethnicity, to assure their self.

Have you seen it in real life and online this phenomenon? For example, I heard my cousin talking about Ajuraan empire and somali peoples history. There was some false said but I wasn’t bothered to correct it.

Turkey only have 10 % steppe ancestry, hilarious to see them popularise it. They were just one of the numerous groups conquered by them, nothing more. :russ:

Yeah the whole world is getting on this new wave. Vikings tv series going viral in my opinion started this trend.

Us somalis should make a tv series/ epic movie about Ajuraan karbaashing the portuguese:lolbron:

It varies by region. Some Turks have as much as 20-25% from what I remember hearing or seeing years ago. But yeah, the overwhelming majority of their ancestry is pre-Oghuz Anatolian. Greeks, Armenians, Iranics and even some Semites like Syriacs.

I disagree. They're just looking for innovative ways to say my abkow is better than your abooto. They went past history books and are now using fossils and anthropology to claim qabiil superiority. Perpetually insecure folks.

What was the ethnic makeup of the original Ottoman rulers ?

The leaders were often of Balkan Slav origin, but they were completely Turkified culturally from a young age.

Ottomans didn't trust ethnic Turks as leaders.

Perhaps Somalia should do this. All presidents can only be Madhibaan or Yibir? Somali but with no major regions of their own.

It's not surprising though, especially since the Somali diaspora live in some of the whitest places in the world. African/Gulf diasporas aren't as present online, maybe because they don't feel the narrative is constantly against them and they don't feel like they need something to latch onto.

Sure.. sure.. this is what motivates people like Sada Mire?

And what about Berbers resisting Arabization:

I understand this as I live in 90% cadaan neighbourhood and country ( Scandinavia ) but from what I have seen a lot of interest comes from people who live in rather multicultural places like Uk ( major cities ), Canada, pockets of USA. It can’t be just the proximity cadaan people.

Anatolian Greeks were actually very prominent in ancient, classical and medieval Greek history. A lot of famous old Greeks you see well known in western scholarship were from Anatolia like Diogenes, Apollonius of Tyana and Mithridates of the Mithridratic wars:

They even produced many Byzantine Emperors and at least one dynasty that I'm aware of.

It's hilarious to think that the Muuuuslamic Turks many Western Europeans like to see as not part of the meme that is "Western Civilization" are actually more historically & genetically tied to Ancient Greeks than them by oceans. Even culturally, to be honest. The people's of the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East still keep alive many day to day customs, dances and cuisines that were being practiced by their ancient predecessors like the Greeks, Egyptians and Aramaeans when you look closely.
