Not sure if I should take a DNA test

I am in such a dilemma right now. I don't know whether I should purchase a DNA kit or not. My mother thinks it's a stupid thing to do, because:

1) It would tell me that I'm Somali
2) And it would be a waste of money according to her.

Bless our mothers.

Well, I do agree with her but I think it would be fun to just do it and see what I would get.

What do you guys think, should I do it or not? Do you think it's a waste of money?

Waste of money don't do it, plus they always mess up with East African DNA. Maybe wait 80 years until the technology is better?

Genetic material that you carry can be studied to find out inherent 'weaknesses' in your genome. The rate at which they occur in a given population (I.e. Somalis) can be extrapolated. This can then be manipulated in the future as a biological tool.

You can keep from voluntarily sending it, but your DNA isn't something you can ever effectively keep private. Your DNA is everywhere.

Yes I'm aware but you are taking a step further in facilaiting the storage and analysis of your DNA, in this case :manny:

PS. Biological tool is not necessarily a negative. It can be in the context of treatment - drug efficacy in certain populations for example.

I was going mention that last part.

It just isn't good to foster fear in ppl without evidence, you know. Even if the above were hypothetically true, there wouldn't much to be done about it. Your hospital collects blood from you every time you go, and has a database of your medical history.

Answering your question, why need DNA research when you know the names of all your abtirsi? What's the purpose of abtirsi if you do DNA tests
