New Somali Embassy charging diaspora Somalis to enter Somalia

Apparently the new embassy which was opened by Sabrina Elba was not approved by the Somali Government and is fake. They are now charging Somali diaspora £100 for a letter of invitation to enter Somalia.

They have also contacted airlines so that diaspora Somalis are refused boarding without this letter of invitation. They also need to pay the $60 visa on arrival in Mogadishu.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs have no idea about this.

A somali even if travelling on a foreign passport should not be subject to any entry taxes when visiting our homeland. This whole fake embassy thing if true is Somali government's fault. Nobody would think of even trying this scam on any other country on the planet. If this is true the Somali government should contact British authorities to prosecute anyone involved

It's BS. I wasn't born in Somalia but I'm a Somali with a foreign passport. I'm a dual national like half of the somali politicians. Why should I get a is to travel to my own country? It's BS and it's incredibly stupid. This is almost de facto removing somali citizenship from diaspora somalis . If they wanted to do something serious they could ask dual citizens to get some kind of somali id that certifies Somali ancestry to travel to somalia. Also it doesn't make sense cause many non-somalis/non citizens were born in Somalia including many Italians, Yemeni, indians etcc

All diaspora that are entering Somalia via the main airlines will have this issue. Qatar Airways have been especially strict on this.

The letter of invitation sounds like a scam but the visa is required by law in Somalia( including Somaliland). I paid for a S-land visa at Wajaale, sort of regret it, people were just walking right through anyway.
