New Abroad-trained 15,000 soldiers will be ready within 2023

The Somali government has sent thousands of military recruits to nearby countries for training to strengthen the army for its war against al-Shabab militants, according to the national security adviser for the Somali president.

In an exclusive interview on January 26 with VOA Somali, Hussein Sheikh-Ali said Somalia has sent 3,000 soldiers each to Eritrea and Uganda in the past few weeks. He said an additional 6,000 recruits will be sent to Ethiopia and Egypt.

"We want to complete making 15,000 soldiers ready within 2023," Ali told VOA in the one-on-one interview in Washington where he met with U.S. officials to seek more support for Somalia

Because there is no tanks and heavy weapons that they need to train on. The government has now bought light tanks and other military vehicles who are on their way to Mogadishu. the ones from Eritrea will be equipped with these weapons.

We pay for our military n police, commandos, etc. Only PSF/PMPF r foreign paid. Plus no-one takes a single soldier of PL overseas

Every single soldier walking around in our Republic is paid by some kind of aid money.

Puntland receives funds to pay for these soldiers, like any other regional gov.

The militias who are backed by their tribes are a different story around the republic. But any gov recognised actual soldier is payed for by foreign funding.

Obviously there will be an period of time where the details are discussed and agreed upon.

The country is actually moving forward in regards of its security sector.
