Nasaaro

Maybe "Nazarene."

If you check the Greek and Roman pronunciation, it seems very similar: Nazōraîoi, Nazorēoi.

The Christians believe Nazareth was the hometown of Jesus.

Remember, we had trade with the Romans since the early times of Christianity, so that term could be that old, as Somalis could have encountered Romans who described Christians. Maybe a few of them came to the shore and introduced themselves with that name.

I doubt we got it from romans, we probably loaned the arabic form النَصَارَى as mentioned in the quran

It's probably Romans, the amount of Roman and Byzantine Coins and other trade goods found, and even the recent discover of a Somali boy buried in a roman city, suggest that we have traded for a long time in the region.

Before the collapse, we had a sizable maritime empire, which got neglected post-war.

yeah I believe so too, when we are doing tafsiir we use the same exact word as the Quran, if our pronunciation was little different then maybe I would think we borrowed it from the Byzantine.
