Countries like Mauritania don’t even bother hiding the practice. It’s straight up slavery since it’s even not hidden under underpayment or anything like that like the other Arab countries that practice forms of slavery. They don’t care how they would look on the international stage, they simply deny it (and to show they’re doing something they make laws but almost never enforce them) but on the ground slavery is abundant. Also idk about you guys, but the people they often enslave (heratins) have some looking similar to Somalis (some people Could confuse them for a Somali and trigger the Somali being slaves agenda) and upwards of 20% of its population are enslaved heratins.

The Ottoman were Turks
