It kind of means like you had a break or save from something (annoying in particular) i.e you rested from it. As in you didnt have to deal with it
The word fits imo. Like if you were to bug me. i'd say malmahaan waan kaa restay, as in I had a break/rest from you

I grew up in the Somali baadiya.

My people speak the real somali with no additions.

Ok, so I asked my mom and she said it doesnt mean rest, but it can be used similar to it. She told me the phrase I used was correct

Later Arabic influenced alot too. Like a sophisicated word liker "Merge" "Merging" it came from Arabic word in Quran.
