I saw this video some time ago and was really fascinated at how vastly different the English language was at multiple times throughout the past thousand years. For some reason Middle English, which was spoken 700 years ago, sounds a lot like modern Dutch and old English sounds like some language that magical beings in a fantasy film speak.
This had me wondering, were there also similar changes in the Somali language throughout history to? For example, if I were to land anywhere in Somaliweyn at any point in the past millennia, could i understand the Somali that was spoken? Would the Somali that Ahmed Gurey (may Allah be pleased with him) and his armies spoke be intelligible to me?
