Why do you have to drag in the FGM issue into the MGM one??? &Why're you trying to make it a competition..?

If you want to tackle the MGM issue, and advocate against it...fine, go ahead-- that's your right. But leave FGM out of it.

I characterise the view that male genital mutilation not being comparable to FGM as nitwit feminism in which males are of no consequence at all.

I personally know a Somali guy who didn't and says he won't circumcize his sons. They are now 12 and 13, respectively.

I'm curious though, as too why female cutting is sunnah but male cutting is mandatory.

People constantly refer to hygeine, but if someone is determined to clean every crevice, they will.

Just doesn't make sense to me.

Brother is already on the true path.

FGM is like cutting off your balls and testicles. Female sunnah circumcision is like cutting off the foreskin.

It's a myth that circumcision (khitna in Arabic) is mandatory. The Hanafi and Maaliki schools say it is sunnah. Only the other schools claim it is waajib. The hadith which supports it classes khitna with other desirable acts like shaving your armpits, pubic hair and moustache, but it is not compulsory to shave your pubes and armpit. I suspect most of you don't. This is supported by the fact that FGM is also a sunnah, but the people who insist MGM is compulsory don't insist on FGM, which makes their inconsistency glaring.

MGM should be left to the individual's personal choice when they can make an informed adult decision. Allah said that his creation is perfect. It doesn't need human interference.

What's the point? Why is it sunnah :bell:

I read the hadith and happen to disagree with the four madhabs. The Prophet pbuh saw a woman about to do fircooni FGM the one where they completely remove the clitoris and inner lips and sew the outer lips together. Upon seeing what was about to happen he intervened and said if she was going to have to do it she should only remove a tiny bit of the clitoris to allow her to achieve orgasm with her husband. To me this sounds like it's a way of reducing greater harm rather than a sunnah everyone should follow.
