Yes it makes sense. Many immigrants who come from communist countries view socialism from a PTSD lens (Cuba, China, countries formerly known as the Soviet Union) and hence become staunch Republicans. They believe in the ideals of self sufficiency and meritocracy that are preached by Republicans.

yes immigrants communities are conservative in culture but I would not classify them as republicans which is a loaded term politically speaking, the dems generally are way more tolerant and welcoming than the white republicans who mix their brand of religious conservatism with xenophobia, racism and so on. I would say most of us immigrants are conservatives at home and blue when it comes to voting
