During the 2006 invasion, Ethiopia lost close to if not half of their troops in that invasion. We’re a lot more organised know. If they do invade, it’ll most likely be Eritrea. They have a claim to their land, much like the Azerbaijan war “historic claims” (excuses / propaganda) will be spouted to get the populace on their side.

Federalism (or a similar decentralized governance system) would’ve happened with or without Ethiopia.

The civil war didn’t have a winner who could decide the fate of Somalia by themselves. The subsequent stalemate would most likely only have ended with a similar type of constitution to satisfy the various fractions.

They bought modern drones like Akinci, which is more capable than the TB2 that was used against Armenia. And UAE helped them acquire f-16 (maybe lending). In addition to these, they bought modern electronic warfare devices, ammunition and others.

All that while they are facing serious economic disaster, and default on their payments, extreme shortage on foreign reserves forcing some intel companies to shutdown and fire thousands of workers, starvation, aid food and money being cut by the US and UN.

So, militarily, Ethiopia can defeat Eritrea with huge cost, since the drones will overcome the mountains advantage that Eritrea has, but economically, I think Ethiopia will face a major blow.
