Kenya says plans to re-open the Mandera border post with Somalia are nearing conclusion, after high-level consultations between the two countries.

Speaking after a visit to the town of Mandera, Kenya’s Internal Security Minister Kithure Kindiki said reopening the crossing point will improve border security and stem the tide of smuggled goods used to fund terrorist activities.

“I have directed the county security teams to sit down with the agencies of government that are represented here, including customs, immigrations, and asses the requirements and provide information within one week to enable us to renovate the border post and re-start our border," said Kindiki.

If Dhoobley reopens that will be massive for Lower Jubba. Kismayo, Afmadow, Dhoobley, Liboi, Dadaab, the towns of Wajir South will all boom like crazy. The boom will reach all the way to Garissa. The whole span from Garissa to Habasweine to Liboi to Afmadow to Kismayo will become one giant trade corridor. In short, this will be absolute massive. Reer Lower Jubba and Wajeer South will experience a golden age the like of which they’ve haven’t experienced since the late 1800s.

And if the Lamu-Ras Kamboni border point opens, then Badhaadhe will become unrecognisable. Lamu has an international airport already built, a port that recently opened and highway links to the rest of Kenya. Badhaadhe will become Somalia’s gateway for the future boomtown of Lamu. With Badhaadhe’s agricultural and marine wealth and the close proximity to Lamu (only 12kms), Ras Kamboni will soon become Somalia’s fastest growing town.

In short, if this happens, Jubbaland will become the economic engine of Somalia.
